South Africa’s Springboks need to beat the All Blacks and score four tries

whilst also preventing their opponents from earning a bonus point to win the

Rugby Championship title.

The Rugby Championship title will be decided in this match and New Zealand

– who are the only unbeaten team in the tournament need just one bonus point

to retain the title.

If the All Blacks lose the match but score four tries they will retain the

Rugby Championship title. The same applies if the All Blacks draw the match

or even lose the match and finish within seven points of the Springboks.

There is little chance that the All Blacks will go into this match with the

goal of winning the tournament through a bonus point and they will be targeting

another victory.

South Africa’s Springboks have only lost one match so far this year and that

was in Auckland when Bismarck du Plessis was red carded. They played most of

the match with 14 players but the All Blacks finished the match with 13 players

on the field.

The Springboks have played the All Blacks 86 times since 1921 and they have

won 34 times and lost 49 times.

There have been three draws between the teams over the years but overall the

Springboks have won 40% of their matches against the All Blacks.

This weekend the match between the teams will be played in South Africa so

the Springboks have home advantage.

The Springboks have had home advantage over the All Blacks 44 times and they

The All Blacks will head to Ellis Park with some confidence though as the last

two matches between them and South Africa in Johannesburg were both played in

Soweto and the All Blacks won both of those.

In fact, the last time the Springboks beat the All Blacks in Johannesburg was

almost 10 years ago as it was in 2004.

In terms of selection the All Blacks will be without Dan Carter again but they

will have their captain back for this match as Richie McCaw returns from an

injury he sustained playing against Argentina in Round 3.

Aaron Cruden fills in for Carter in the backline and McCaw’s return is the

only change to the line up that picked up a bonus point victory in Argentina

last week.

The Springboks on the other hand have made two changes for this week with Bismarck

du Plessis returning to the starting line up and Juandre Kruger comes in at

lock for Flip van der Merwe who has been suspended for this week.

In recent times the All Blacks have had the edge of the Springboks and the

last time South Africa beat New Zealand was in 2011 but that was a second string

All Black team ahead of the Rugby World Cup.

Out of the last eight matches between the teams the only South African victory

was the one in Port Elizabeth. In full strength vs strength matches the last

Springbok victory over the All Blacks was in 2009.

The Bookies

have given South Africa a 1 point start for this Match - with

have a great record at Ellis Park but in recent clashes they have had the edge

so we think they will just sneak home. New Zealand should win it by 2.
