Driving ban for 107mph rugby legend Martin Johnson

Johnson, who captained England to victory at the 2003 World Cup, was stopped by police as he drove his family home at 10pm from a weekend in Devon.

The 43-year-old was spotted “overtaking all other traffic” at great speed on the M5 near Bridgwater, Somerset.

At Taunton Magistrates Court this week he admitted the offence, in August, and was banned for 49 days and fined £800.

Stephen Gooden, defending, told the court earlier this week: “He admitted his guilt at the first available opportunity and was co-operative with police.

“When he was stopped, the traffic was light and he was in a very powerful vehicle. He wasn’t going to risk his wife, daughter and son’s safety. He understands the seriousness of the matter.”

Johnson lives with his wife Kay, 42, daughter Molly, 10, and five-year-old son Henry in a £500,000 house at Mowsley, Leicestershire.
