Taoiseach Enda Kenny has got another “wallop” – after new Ireland rugby coach Joe Schmidt hit him in the face with a rugby ball.
They were posing for photographs at the Irish Management Institute (IMI) in Dublin, where both were giving speeches to business leaders.
Mr Kenny, a former gaelic footballer, kicked the rubgy ball he had been given into the air and caught it.
That prompted Mr Schmidt to attempt his own “gaelic football-style” solo with the rugby ball while Mr Kenny was standing right beside him. But when he kicked the ball, he ended up hitting Mr Kenny in the face.
Mr Kenny was stunned for a split-second but quickly recovered and joked to the photographers present: “Did you get that?”.
Mr Schmidt quickly apologised to Mr Kenny, saying he had meant to hit the ball in a different way.
Just last week, Mr Kenny admitted he had got a “wallop” after voters rejected his plan last week to abolish the Seanad.
He referred to this in his speech to IMI delegates, saying there was a need to “roll up the sleeves and lead by example”.
“Sometimes you don’t win them all but you have to have a vision of where you want to be,” he said.
