Cerith, a 25-year-old Welsh speaker, was a talented player who had just helped the club seal promotion to the Swalec Division 2 West.
A spokesman for Trebanos RFC said: “The funeral of our popular and much- loved fullback Cerith Edwards, affectionately known to us all as Peanut will be held on Saturday.
“The players, coaches, committee and members of Trebanos RFC wish to offer their sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to Steve, Julie, Rhydian, Tristian, Chris and Angie following the tragic loss of your loving son and brother. Our thoughts are with you all at this sad time.
“Trebanos RFC are grateful for the many messages of sympathy and support received from our fellow clubs and the many individuals who knew Cerith. They are a source of great comfort to the family and the club.”
He added that a book of condolence has been opened.
He said: It is available at the clubhouse for anyone wishing to add their personal messages of remembrance or condolence to Cerith’s family.”
While the cause of death has not been made known a spokeswoman for West Midland police confirmed that the death had been referred to the coroner. Earlier this week Chinese lanterns were released from the Trebanos park pitch and Wales and Ospreys star Justin Tipuric, who is from the village, wore a black armband when he made his Lions debut in Honk Kong on Saturday evening.
The funeral takes place at 9.15am at Alltwen Chapel tomorrow followed by cremation in Margam at 10.30am.
