FORMER Truro College students Jack Nowell and Luke Cowan-Dickie starred as England beat Wales 23-15 to win the IRB Junior World Championship at the Stade de la Rabine, Vannes, on Sunday evening.
Full-back Nowell and hooker Cowan-Dickie were stand-out performers as England fought back from a 15-3 half-time deficit, with 20 year-old Nowell claiming a second half try.

Both are now on the books of Premiership side Exeter Chiefs but were educated at Mounts Bay School, Penzance, before moving on to Truro College.
Their rugby careers began at Penzance Newlyn Minis/Juniors and senior international honours now seem well within their reach after a season which has also seen Nowell pick up LV= Breakthough Player of the Year Award.

Nowell tweeted after Sunday’s triumph: “Well…what can I say about that? What an amazing feeling. Thank you to everyone for their messages and support.”
His cousin, Zoe George, described how much his success meant to the Newlyn family. She said: “It is absolutely amazing and the whole family is delighted. I watched it on television and was a bit disappointed in the first half because it looked like Wales would win. But they came back with a real bang in the second half and I am just so pleased for all of them. It was a tremendous achievement.”
A third member of the victorious England squad with strong links to Cornwall is 19-year old centre Sam Hill, who has spent the last two seasons dual registered with the Cornish Pirates from his parent club at Exeter.
Hill, who described the win over Wales as “an awesome feeling” was also on the scoresheet claiming England`s second try.
And Cornish Pirates head coach Ian Davies commented: “Sam is a cracking lad and we will claim some credit here because we did contribute to his development. It was great to see him score the winning try.”
“We hope to have him back here next season and he thinks he will play for us, but to be honest I’m not sure how much we will see of him because he is a class act with a fantastic attitude.”
Davies added: “We were going to have Luke Cowan-Dickie dual registered with us but his transformation from prop to hooker has been phenomenal so I expect him to stay at Sandy Park.”
A welcome home party to celebrate Jack and Luke’s success wih the England U20s was due to be held at the Yacht Inn, Penzance last night.
