Rugby League - Koukash expecting defeat in bid to buy Bradford bulls

The wife of Salford owner Dr Marwan Koukash was one of our prospective buyers for the Bulls, who are back in administration following the collapse of the latest takeover attempt.

Marwan Koukash had expressed his confidence in his wife’s bid and both attended Bradford’s home game against Huddersfield last Sunday.

An announcement is expected to be made by the Rugby Football League later this week but Mandy Koukash revealed on her Twitter account on Tuesday that she was likely to be turned down.

“Would like to wish all other bidders the very best,” she said. “I am hearing my bid will not be the winning one. My bid was focused in helping the Bulls.

“As I understand, the RFL has nothing to do with the decision. It is based on the highest bid to pay the old debt.”

It is thought other bids came from London-based businessman Richard Lamb, who organised the corporate hospitality at the 2013 World Cup, and a consortium led by representatives of local football club Bradford Park Avenue.

Bradford City have also expressed an interest in the past and there could also be involvement from deben ture holder Marc Green, who is the club’s biggest creditor after making a loan of around £250,000 to OK Bulls Ltd last September.

That company was put into administration in January and a bid by 2014 Bradford Bulls UK Ltd collapsed following the RFL’s decision to impose a six-point deduction and place the club in special measures.

Mandy Koukash, who had pledged to provide money for coach Francis Cummins to strengthen his small playing squad, has hinted that she may still have some involvement in the club.

“If possible, I would consider working with the winning bidder,” she added on Twitter.

The club also still owe a tax bill of around £177,000.
