IRISH prop Jack OâConnell has been confirmed as the first of seven signings for the 2014-15 season Bristol Rugby will make today.
Director of rugby Andy Robinson has been busy bolstering his squad for next term â regardless of whether Bristol are playing Aviva Premiership or GKIPA Championship rugby.
They will make seven announcements today â with 23-year-old Leinster loosehead OâConnell the first.
Leeds scrum-half Craig Hampson and Ospreys fly-half Matthew Morgan â both of whom have been strongly linked with the club â are also expected to be among todayâs announcements.
Prop OâConnell, who came through the renowned Leinster academy, has signed a two-year deal with Bristol, having made 13 RaboDirect Pro12 appearances. He also won 12 caps for Ireland at under-20 level.
Robinson said: âJack has represented Leinster A in three BI Cup campaigns, helping his side to the title in 2013. Heâs a talented young Irish prop, who provides us with an extra dimension in the front row next season.
âJack can be an asset to us. Itâs important to recruit young players with plenty of potential â Jack has all the ingredients to play at the top level.â
OâConnell added: âBristol is a club with a great reputation and a forward-thinking vision â Iâm delighted to be joining.
âI thoroughly enjoyed my time at Leinster Rugby and I would like to thank the coaching staff and academy staff in particular for their time over the years, but I just feel the time is right for a move and the opportunity to compete for regular game-time was a huge part of the decision making process.
âThe Bristol fans are renowned for their passionate support and itâs an exciting time to be joining with the move to the new stadium and the quality players coming on-board.
âIâm looking forward to playing my part and helping the club achieve their goals.â
