Warrington 6 - Widnes 16: Vikings Jack Owens gets the double

The Vikings played more than half the game with only 12 men and have nothing left to play for but pride in the League.

But they outplayed the Wolves in the second half to stop them going top for the first time this season.

The first half was forgettable from a rugby point of view – but memorable for several bad reasons.

Trouble broke out early in the half after two flares were thrown on to the pitch from the Widnes end.

Fans scuffled with stewards as they tried to eject the trouble-makers – the second game in a month involving Widnes to be marred by fighting.

At the same time, action was stopped on the pitch to allow Vikings hooker Grant Gore to be stretchered off with a fractured knee-cap.

Gore was unlucky to fall badly in a tackle but there was nothing legal about the next sickening injury in the game.
