SCOTLAND have unveiled their new rugby kit, in a design that new suppliers Macron have called a âclassic rebornâ.
Supporters were asked in February to submit designs for the new strip, which will first be worn in the game against Japan at Murrayfield in November.
The kit, which teams a predominantly navy shirt, with white shorts and navy and white socks also features the traditional thistle design worn on the 1990 Grand Slam winning jesey embossed on the rear of the shirt.
Scottish Rugbyâs Chief Executive, Mark Dodson, said: âWeâre delighted to unveil our flagship shirt today, the first product of our biggest ever sponsorship deal.
âWe have been blown away with the engagement from our fans with over 200 entries coming in since February. We believe this will be a very popular jersey with its modern design technology underpinned by traditional influences.
âI personally cannot wait to see the team and the fans wearing it for the first time at our game against Japan in November at Murrayfield.â
Macronâs CEO, Gianluca Pavanello, added: âWeâre really proud of this new partnership and we have been working on the development of the new uniforms for many months in collaboration with Scottish Rugby.
âWe aim to create a collection that is unique and deserving to its passionate fan base across the rugby world.â
A shortlist of four was chosen from the entries, with the finalists asked to submit a short explanation behind their design, with Borders-born Edinburgh resident Stuart Gray coming out on top.
The 33-year-old told Scottish Rugbyâs official website: âThe Scotland shirt is a significant piece of clothing for many people, so Iâm blown away and incredibly proud to have had an influence in the design of this new piece of kit.
âIt was amazing seeing it for the first time and watching it come off the factory line.
âI donât think Iâll be able to prepare myself for when the team first run out at Murrayfield wearing the jersey, itâll be amazing and so exciting.â
Scotland full-back Stuart Hogg praised the design, adding: âI remember when I was growing up seeing footage of Scotlandâs greats playing in a navy shirt with white collar, so itâs going to be quite a thrill pulling this jersey on for the first time.â
