Old Caterhamians to stage England Rugby"s All Schools Festival

RUGBY: Old Caterhamians’ Park Avenue ground will host England Rugby’s All Schools Festival on March 19.

The festival, which is being run by England Rugby to kick-start rugby union in schools that currently play little or no rugby, previously came to the Old Caterhamians ground in Caterham last November. Pupils from De Stafford School, Oakwood and Warwick enjoyed an afternoon playing rugby, overseen by coaches and referees from both the club and England Rugby.

Gareth Jackson, club coach co-ordinator for England Rugby in Surrey, said: “By the Old Cats hosting the festival, it means that potential new players of the game discover where to carry on their participation outside of school.

“Hopefully the outcome of the project will ensure Old Cats, as well as the other clubs involved, have a sustained stream of future players coming to them.”

This time around the club are expecting more than 300 players from schools across Surrey.

Old Caterhamians are looking forward to welcoming the school and developing links with the local schools.

The opportunity for players on the day to join the club’s thriving minis and youth section is also a key focus and will hopefully provide Surrey and the club with an excellent generation of new players to the wonderful sport.
