Star fullback Leigh Halfpenny will undergo shoulder surgery on Friday and “is expected to be out for up to four months”, according to the Welsh Rugby Union.
Halfpenny injured his shoulder tackling Luther Burrell in the closing stages of Wales’ 29-18 loss to England on Sunday. The WRU has since confirmed Halfpenny needs an operation and if he is out for the full four months, then he looks to have played his last game for the Cardiff Blues.
Halfpenny will join Toulon in the summer and the projected spell he looks destined to spend out of action would see him ruled out for the remainder of the season. He also looks set to miss Wales’ tour of South Africa in June.
