GLOUCESTER are set to complete their search for fly-halves with the signing of Aled Thomas from the Scarlets.
The 29-year-old is out of contract in Llanelli at the end of the season and is poised to complete a move to Kingsholm.
He is set to link up with the squad in the summer and be the latest signing as Nigel Davies rebuilds his squad following a disappointing campaign.
Twenty-five players were due to come out of contract at Kingsholm in May and a major search for fly-halves was launched after Freddie Burns and Ryan Mills opted to leave while Tim Taylor was forced to retire.
Davies has already recruited Scotland half-back Greig Laidlaw as his front-line pivot, while Billy Twelvetrees and Billy Burns will also step into number 10 when needed.
But Thomas, who came through the ranks at the Scarlets before enjoying stints at London Welsh and Newport Gwent Dragons, is understood to be the final piece of the fly-half jigsaw.
He famously played an integral role in Wales’ Sevens World Cup glory, scoring the match-winning try against Argentina in the 2009 final.
Davies brought Thomas back to the Scarlets in 2011, initially as cover during the World Cup, before penning a longer deal.
During his last three seasons in West Wales, he has made 60 appearances and racked up 247 points. He is renowned for his goal-kicking and played a key role in the Scarlets 2012-2013 Heineken Cup campaign.
