Robinson’s successor as England full-back, who picked up three man-of-the-match awards in five games, is among a trio of Englishmen to make the 15-man shortlist alongside Danny Care and Owen Farrell.
Champions Ireland supply most nominees with six, Wales – through Sam Warburton and Taulupe Faletau – have two, as do France, while Scotland, like Italy, have a token one in David Denton.
Robinson has no doubt that Brown was the shining light in the championship, and now wants him to push on and become the best full-back in the world.
“Mike is like a fine wine – he is getting better with age. He gets my vote. He’s done what Leigh Halfpenny did last year. He has been outstanding,” said Robinson.
“He has the ability to beat the first man, he brings a left-footed kicking option to take the pressure off Owen, he’s great under the high ball, fearless and he score tries.
“There are some fine full-backs in the Six Nations – Halfpenny, Rob Kearney, Brice Dulin – but Mike is heading the list in the northern hemisphere and one of the best in the world.
“What he has to do now is do it against New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. That’s when he will really know where he stands.”
Brown will have the chance soon enough when he next pulls on the England jersey on the three-Test tour to New Zealand.
While Robinson liked what he saw from England in the Six Nations, he still has reservations over their back play as they head for a series with the market leaders in this area.
