NEWCASTLE overcame the ill-effects of three bad injuries to record a 22-13 home win over near neighbours ECCLESHALL in Midlands Three West (North).
They were at full strength during a first half in which forward pressure allowed Sam Longstaff to score a try either side of a Ronan Evans penalty and conversion for a 10-3 half-time advantage.
Kev Edwards then kicked off the second period in characteristic fashion by out-stripping the visiting defence to go over.
Newcastle’s hat-trick of injuries threatened to disrupt their progress, but a fine individual try from Dominic Ellerton settled their nerves and bagged the points.
