Freddie Burns set to join Leicester Tigers

Leicester cannot officially hold direct talks with Burns, 23, until January 1, but it is understood unless there is a last-minute change of heart, Burns is ready to leave Kingsholm and agree a move to the English champions.

Gloucester want Scarlets’ stand-off Rhys Priestland as a potential replacement but face opposition from Wasps as well as the WRU, who have included him on a six-man list for central contracts. There is uncertainty whether they will press ahead down this route, though, as peace talks continue with the Welsh regions.

“It’s very hard to make a decision when you don’t know what’s going on,” said Priestland.
