England"s New Rugby Kit "Inspired By War Of The Roses" (PICTURES)

England’s new “alternate kit” for the autumn Tests is inspired by the War of the Roses, the Rugby Football Union has revealed.

Kit designers Canterbury, who created the appalling purple ensemble last year, have designed the red and white striped ‘1871’ collection, which pays homage to the Battle of the Roses Yorkshire versus Lancashire painting from the late 19th century.

The terrifically named Richard Wigglesworth modelled the strip, which “takes inspiration from and replicates the heritage of the painting”, which is housed on the wall of the President’s Suite at Twickenham Stadium.
