At a raucous Halliwell Jones Stadium last night, they progressed to next weekâs Grand Final, where victory over Wigan or Leeds would see them crowned champions for the first time since 1955.
Tony Smithâs side were too clinical for Huddersfield after Australian winger Joel Monaghanâs predatory brace laid the platform for a commanding interval lead.
The first try after the break was going to be crucial, and Wolves centre Ryan Atkins scored it, thus putting the game beyond the Giants despite a gallant fightback.
Smith, who accused veteran playmaker Lee Briers of lacking his usual finesse, said: âLee has controlled games better than that and will do far better next week. He was a bit embarrassed to pick up the champagne.â
It was a devastating end to the Giantsâ season. They came top for the first time in 81 years but, typically, fell short when it mattered most.
Coach Paul Anderson said: âWe know the best team won but weâve achieved a lot this year and want to do better next season.â
Warrington led through Monaghan but the reply came from Danny Brough.
The Giants struck again through Jake Connor, 18, but, eight minutes before the break, Monaghan went over for his second.
