ANDREW Spencer has been named Oxford Rugby League’s king of fans.

Spencer will represent the club at the Kingstone Press Championships finals day at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday, flying their flag at half-time.

Nominated for his part in founding the rugby league club at Oxford Brookes University and his enthusiastic match-day chants, Spencer receives a crate of cider and a family ticket to the matches.

“It’s great news, I didn’t realise I’d been nominated!” he said.

“I think it’s fantastic that rugby league is expanding to different parts of the country and it’s a really exciting time to be involved with the team.”

Spencer and the winners from 21 other clubs are now contenders to be named ‘Ultimate King of the Fans’ on the day.

Oxford lost to Hemel Stags in the Championship One play-offs, the final of which sees Oldham face Rochdale.
