Tributes have been paid to Cardiff RFC legend and former Wales international Ian âRobboâ Robinson who has passed away at the age of 70.
The second row won two Welsh caps in 1974, against France and England, and played 384 games for Cardiff – his only club – between 1964 and 1980.
Cardiff Blues today issued a statement, saying they are saddened to hear the news.
The statement read: âIan only ever played club rugby for Cardiff over a 16-year spell and was a firm favourite for the Blue Blacks.
âOne of the hardest men on the field, off the field he was a gentleman and was happy to talk rugby to anyone he met.
âIn recent years he had been a very active and valued member of the Cardiff Rugby committee.
âRobbo will be sadly missed and our thoughts go out to his family at this sad time.â
A number of leading figures in Welsh rugby have posted Tweets in tribute to Robinson.
Former Cardiff and Wales centre Mark Ring said: âSo sad to announce rugby great and all time CRFC legend and long time personal friend of mine has passed away today. RIP Ian âRobboâ Robinson.â
Derwyn Jones, himself a former Cardiff and Wales lock, said: âRIP Ian Robinson, Cardiff Rugby legend, enjoyed some great times in the 90s, was a good friend.â
BBC Wales reporter Phil Steele added: âRIP former Cardiff RFC and Wales second row Ian Robinson. A great character, bloke and rugby man with Blue Black in his veins.â
