Sapcote rugby superstar Vicky Fleetwood has made it into the Womenâs World Cup 2014 training squad.
The 23-year-old could be heading off to Paris in August next year if sheâs selected to play for the England team for the prestigious games.
Vicky, who currently works as a PE teacher in three schools and personal trainer at the Training Shed in Market Harborough, said: âI found out last week. I am one of 27 players to be selected and there are still three more to be announced in January. But there will only be 26 going to the World Cup.
âIt all depends on injuries and how we train. There are three of us going for two hooker positions.
âI
am really, really excited but I know I am going to have to work really hard. You have to make sure youâre training at your hardest and that youâre better than those in the opposition for that space.
âI am going to have to give it everything I can for the next eight to nine months.â
Vicky,
who is a former John Cleveland College student, has 33 caps for England
and first played for the national team in 2011. She hasnât missed a game since.
She added: âAt the moment I train every day other than Saturday which is my rest day.
âThe squad training will be for one week a month where we will train together and then go back to work and our other training.â
Vicky,
who says she feels fighting fit, plays for Lichfield Ladies and trains with them two days a week. She also does conditioning training at Loughborough University once a week and trains with Leicester Tigers once a week.
Â
Vicky, who is known as the England team hairdresser added: âI plait all the girls hair before we play.
âWhen you do this you get used to moving around a lot and living out of a suitcase.
âIt is hard to juggle everything around and my diary is always full.â
She
said she is hopeful that the England team will get a lot of supporters during the World Cup. She added: âI think that because there has been a lot more media coverage of womenâs rugby itâs upped our followers.
âWe play a good game. We donât kick as much so we run more and it has a fantastic pace.
âPeople
think we are not as strong, powerful or skillful but they need to remember we donât do this full time and donât get to practice as much as
the men.
âI think people should watch it and when they do they will see itâs a decent game.â
