Rugby: Dungannon no match for pacesetters Terenure in All Ireland League

Dungannon’s trip to Dublin ended in a heavy defeat against unbeaten pacesetters, Terenure.

The Dubliners, who set down a certain marker the previous week handing out a 57-10 thumping to second placed Corinthians, showed no mercy on a Dungannon side ravaged by injuries and Ulster call ups.

Terenure led 29-0 at the break before adding a further 34 points in the second half.

Dungannon did manage a consolation score when Chris Cousens intercepted before racing 80 metres for a try converted by Jake Finlay.

Terenure scorers were Robbie Smyth (2), Robert Duke (2), Ian Hanly (2), Kyle McCoy, John Bollard, Graham Coffey and Mark O’Neill.

All Ireland League action now takes a break until 4th January.

Dungannon: Cormac McCartney, Chris Cousens, Chris Henderson, Mark Faloon, Jake Finlay, Gareth McGonigle, James Bates, Glen Sinnamon, Mal Allister, Steven Sinnamon, Michael Dunleavy, Plunkett McCallan, Bryan Davidson, Stephen Todd, Timmy Smith. Replacements: Jarrod Miller, Simon Potter, Peter Smith, Andrew Lee, Jonny Toal.

Division IB results: UL Bohemian 31 Buccaneers 16; Harlequins 19 Corinthians 21; Dublin University 20 Blackrock 13; Terenure 63 Dungannon 7; Malone 18 Shannon 19.

NEWS FROM STEVENSON PARK

It is time to spare a thought for Dungannon and Ulster midfielder, Peter Nelson who was originally picked for the bench in Ulster’s European Cup match against Treviso only to be told later that he was not registered for the Heineken Cup. Ulster won the game easily, 48-0, with the help of tries from Dungannon players, Sean Doyle and Paddy Jackson and the talented Nelson had to be content with a run out for the Ulster Ravens in the BI Cup at Ayr.

There were tries galore at Stevenson Park on Saturday morning when the minis of Omagh and Dungannon clashed in a blitz tournament.

There will be an auction of Sports memorabilia and Irish Art in the Clubhouse tomorrow night, Tuesday. This is an opportunity to bid on some early Christmas presents.

Congratulations to the ‘Latecomers’ who took the honours at last week’s Table Quiz organised by the Breakthru Charity. This Thursday the quiz is in aid of the Tyrone Scouts.

Ulster League action returns this Saturday and Dungannon have a home game against Malone. The Seconds will play at the earlier kick off time of 1pm. Meanwhile the Thirds take to the road to meet Lisburn II in the first round of the Crawford Cup.
