Some of Trent College’s most promising young rugby talents have continued to make a name for themselves this autumn, with Sixth Form students and Northampton Saints Academy duo Will Allman and James Fish leading the way.
Allman and Fish are impressing as part of the Saints’ Academy and have been playing for the Academy U19 team, despite being just 16 and 17 years of age respectively.
Forward Will, who played three games for England South U16s at the Wellington College International Festival earlier this year, was recently part of an England U17 training camp, while front row James is eyeing selection for England U18s in February after impressing when Saints Academy recently played England U18s.Â
Ben Trembling and Max Johnson have been invited for RFU Midlands Under 18 squad trials following the recent Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire (NLD) RFU ‘Super Sunday’ tournament. Jack Dickinson and Joe McMenamin also both represented the NLD U16s at their age-group ‘Super Sunday’ Tournament.
Numerous players from the U14 and U15 age-groups are now firmly established in Leicester Tigers’ Developing Player Programme (DPP), while Trent College boys also feature heavily in both the Nottingham and Derbyshire county squads, with no fewer than five players in the counties’ U14 set-ups and six in the U15 squads.Â
Year 8 pupil Ben Dickinson will hope to follow in the footsteps of big brother Jack after being selected for the U13 Midlands Independent Schools team. Trent College sport scholar Jack captained the Independent Schools ‘Lambs XV’ – selected from all the Independent Schools throughout England â earlier this year.
Meanwhile the school’s U15s have progressed to round six of the Natwest Cup, hosting Pocklington School, from York, on 11 December, while the First XV have made it to round six of the Natwest Vase after defeating Hereford Cathedral School last week.
Yet for all the school’s success, Guy Hope, Head of Rugby at Trent College, admits a slightly less high profile moment stands out as his highlight of the term so far. He said: “In playing a 12D match against Oakham all the pupils in the Year 7 age group have now represented the school in a fixture this year, something that has not been achieved before.Â
“The game will be remembered for many things, not least the effort and enthusiasm of all those who played, from both sides, who are very new to the game. The 40-40 draw was a worthy result.”
