Wakefield coach Richard Agar: I"m ready to save Wildcats

The Wildcats must find £400,000 in the next two months to stay afloat amid fears they will be forced to drop out of the Super League. Star scrum-half Tim Smith was sold to Salford for about £90,000 but new chairman Michael Carter admits further sacrifices may have to be made if new investment does not materialise.

Wakefield’s plight has left Agar facing another close-season of restructuring just two years after overhauling the squad following a previous spell in administration.

Agar said: “The most important thing is to get this club back on an even keel or accruing losses that the current owner knows he can manage and sustain.

“If they tell me this is what we’ve got to do to survive and this is all we can work off, then moving forward is going to be tough.

“That bit doesn’t frighten me at all but, in terms of the challenges in front of us, they’re pretty big.”

Businessman Carter, 44, insisted that the club is not close to going back into administration and gave an assurance that it would still be in the Super League in 2014. But he admitted that more players could go, with captain Danny Kirmond and prop Kyle Amor attracting interest.
