Steve Diamond is hoping to cut it at Sale Sharks

Last season, the Sharks appeared to have installed a coaching merry-go-round at the Salford City Stadium.

Bryan Redpath started as boss but was left clinging on by his fingernails as an assistant after John Mitchell was brought on board. Mitchell hopped on and off again in the blink of an eye and Diamond, the former coach and chief executive, stepped in with the club looking set for relegation.

Diamond oversaw a turnaround in Sale’s fortunes and, after being bottom at Christmas, they finished 10th. He said: “We had a rough season last year, so we’re after a bit of consistency.

“We don’t want to start as we did last year, but to be more like the second half of the season, when we won seven out of 11.
