The 32-year-old former Wales and British Lions star even fears it could take him three years to get to grips with the code.
But Wiganâs high-profile signing from Sale insists he will eventually make the club and fans proud of him.
He said: âThe first few weeks I felt like going back to Union because it was that hard.
âI didnât want to get out of bed for a week because it was that bad â it was like being hit by a tram.
âBut I always knew it was going to be tough. Iâve come with the right attitude. I am learning and enjoying it.â
Powell was hauled off after nine minutes of Wiganâs play-off clash with Huddersfield because he was struggling so much.
Coach Shaun Wane didnât put him back on until the dying minutes, when the Warriors had already made sure of victory.
But Powell insists he will learn from the shock treatment, saying: âI was a bit dazed but Iâm glad he put me back on to get some confidence back.â The 18-stone prop has played five games since making his debut in June.
He said: âA lot of people didnât think Iâd get this far so early.
âIn Union everything came naturally but here I have to think about everything and itâs taking time getting used to the different techniques.
