English rugby has experienced its fair share of blunders in recent years and this is another to add to the list.
If the purple and black kits weren’t already bad enough â not to mention the woeful performances at the 2011 Rugby World Cup â there is now a red and white striped kit from which fans can choose.
The new kit is the main feature of England’s new ’1879′ collection â some would argue that title is appropriate given its resemblance to Victorian-era English beach deckchairs and changing rooms from that era â which was inspired by the 19th century ‘Battle of the Roses: Yorkshire V Lancashireâ painting.
Unnecessary: Scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth poses in England’s latest rugby kit, and it’s a shocker
Scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth has been joined by Ben Morgan, Geoff Parling, Ben Foden, Tom Wood and Danny Care in modelling England’s latest range.
Wigglesworth even did so in front of the painting, which depicts a match between Lancashire and Yorkshire and is on the wall of the President’s Suite at Twickenham.
Kit maker Canterbury argue the range will be ‘must haves for any England fan’.
Sportsmail argue otherwise.
England’s finest? Wigglesworth is joined by Ben Morgan, Geoff Parling, Ben Foden, Tom Wood and Danny Care as all of the latest releases are modelled
Inspiration: But the new kit, based on this painting, perhaps doesn’t do it justice
Black’s the new black? The expressions of Tom Palmer, Jonny Wilkinson and Matt Banahan perhaps tell you all you need to know
Remember this? Mark Cueto was among those to wear England’s purple kit during their underwhelming autumn in 2009

It looks like something Bluto from Popeye would wear. Still, it’ll take your mind off getting thrashed by Wales again next year!
