Since his outburst, Saints have won nine out of 11, climbed to fifth and crushed Hull KR 46-10 in the play-offs. Tonight they travel to Leeds and half-back Hohaia is convinced they can knock out the champions.

He said: “Eamonn is a passionate man and there is a lot at stake, for him especially.

“What he said was the kick up the bum that we deserved. It took something like that to spark us into gear. Leeds will be tough and it will be great if we can progress.”
