Welsh rugby regions and WRU reach a solution

THE Welsh Rugby Union and the four regions have buried the hatchet after their long-running row over the future of the professional game.


The two parties have reached agreement on the establishment of a new Professional Regional Game Board to improve the financial situation of regional rugby in Wales.

It will start work straightaway. High Court judge Sir Wyn Williams has been made the independent, non-voting chairman of the body which consists of five members from the WRU, one from each of the regions and one representative from Regional Rugby Wales.


It will look at issues such as player contracts and recruitment, academy structures and marketing. RRW chief executive Stuart Gallacher, said: “This is an encouraging step. All four regions have made significant progress towards establishing a sustainable business platform over the last two years and hope to be able to build on that work with the support of the WRU.
