Gavin Henson fined by Bath Rugby after fracas

Gavin Henson and Carl Fearns have been fined and warned over their future conduct by Bath Rugby following last week’s fracas in a city centre pub.

Big-name signing Henson was knocked to the floor by a punch from England forward Fearns at the Pig and Fiddle on Wednesday night, with the incident caught on video and subsequently viewed by thousands of people online.

There has been speculation that the group had been winding each other up over the course of the evening, with a suggestion that Wales international Henson, 31, had been teased about his appearances on Strictly Come Dancing.

After conducting an internal investigation into the events of last Wednesday, Bath confirmed today that the duo involved had been dealt with via its disciplinary process.

Bath Rugby CEO Nick Blofeld said: “The behaviour of some of the players was totally unacceptable and not what we expect from them.

“The two players involved have taken full responsibility for their actions and they have both received written warnings and fines, and we regard the case as now closed.

“We want to see the squad focussed on pre-season training, the forthcoming 7s and friendlies, and then delivering on the pitch this season.”

In addition, Fearns – a member of the England Saxons Elite Player Squad in the first half of last season – has been asked by the RFU to attend a meeting with staff at Twickenham.

On behalf of the playing squad at Bath, experienced lock Stuart Hooper added: “We would like to apologise as a group.

“Clearly what happened last week was inappropriate and there is a collective will amongst the players to put that right and not set such a poor example again.”
