Rugby World Cup organisers will not segregate fans after campaign on social ...

“It was a great bit of advertising for rugby, in terms of its cultures and

values so I think some good came out of that conjecture. There has never

been an intention to segregate the crowd.”

Debbie Jevans, the chief executive of England Rugby 2015, the tournament

organisers, said that the logistics of grouping supporters together for

matches would also prove problematical. “When you are selling 2.3 million

tickets in various markets it is very difficult to legislate who sits

where,” Jevans said.

“That is one of the beauties of rugby. If people buy four tickets then those

tickets are likely to be together so they can sit with fellow fans from that

country. But the beauty of what we are doing is that there doesn’t have to

be any segregation and there will not be any segregation.”

ER2015 confirmed on Tuesday that tickets for the tournament would go on

general sale to the public between Sept 12 and 29 this year, with 500,000

tickets also being made available to purchase through rugby clubs affiliated

to the Rugby Football Union this month.

The expected high demand for tickets is reflected by the fact that ticketing

websites are already selling tickets at inflated prices, even though none

have been released for sale yet.

ER2015’s push for legislation for legal protection against touts for next

year’s tournament has not proved successful.

However those seeking to sell tickets at inflated values have been warned

that a variety of measures, including the name of each buyer being printed

on every ticket, are being put in place to deter the touts.

ER2015 will be monitoring ticketing websites for purchases made at above face

value, and ticket holders who are found to have breached the terms and

conditions of the tickets will be denied entry. The RFU is also likely to

impose sanctions on any clubs whose members have been found to have sold

tickets above face value.
