MIKE RUDDOCK’S Ireland U-20 squad have been dealt a blow ahead of their Junior World Cup campaign in New Zealand after losing captain Sean O’Brien to injury.

The Connacht flanker injured his ankle during the Six Nations campaign and has not recovered in time to take his place, which is filled by Lansdowne’s Oisin Harrison, while Munster No 8 Jack O’Donoghue will take over as skipper.
Centre Peter Robb is also out after injuring his ankle in the warm-up win over Scotland and Terenure’s Harrison Brewer has been called up to the squad as his replacement. Ian Fitzpatrick also misses out, with David Busby taking his place.
Ireland kick off their campaign against France in Auckland next Monday before facing Wales and Fiji. Their pool games will be broadcast on TG4, who will also screen the tournament’s semi-finals and final.
LAMONT PLEDGES HIS FUTURE TO WARRIORS
Sean Lamont has handed Glasgow Warriors a boost ahead of Saturday’s Pro12 final by pledging his future to the club.
The 86-time capped Scotland wing, who will feature for the country’s Sevens squad at this summer’s Commonwealth Games, has agreed a new two-year deal. He has been joined in penning new terms by another wing, youngster Rory Hughes, who has signed his first one-year professional contract.
Hughes (21) made his debut for the club in the win over Connacht at Scotstoun in February and has gone on to make three appearances for Gregor Townsend’s men.
LANCASTER SNUBS ARMITAGE AGAIN
England coach Stuart Lancaster has reiterated his stance on foreign players despite Steffon Armitage’s crowning as European Player of the Year.
There has been a clamour for the Toulon back-row, who has not played for his country since 2010, to be recalled for England’s summer tour of New Zealand, but the coach will not be calling him up in the immediate future, without closing the door fully.
Lancaster has included Danny Cipriani in his 30-man squad to face the world champion All Blacks in the first Test on Saturday week.
Mako Vunipola faces a nervous wait to discover whether he will be fit for the tour after suffering a knee injury playing for Saracens against Toulon in the Heineken Cup final.
O’CALLAGHAN, WILSON GET BAA-BAAS CALL-UP
MUNSTER’s Donncha O’Callaghan and Ulster’s Roger Wilson have been selected to play for the Barbarians against England’s second string next weekend.
They’ll link up with a collection of world stars in the 24-man squad who will be coached by Dean Ryan at Twickenham on Sunday.
