Harlequins revival gives Stuart Lancaster England selection headache

The tournament itself marked its 500 day countdown yesterday and the organisers announced that tickets will go on sale to the general public on September 12. The purchase window will be open until September 29.

Tickets will be limited to four per applicant for the knockout stages but fans are likely to be able to purchase more for the group games.

They will be sent out as near to the matches as possible to restrict the black market in tickets. Rugby clubs will receive 500,000 tickets later this month.

The RFU have dismissed speculation that spectators will be segregated for the first time at the tournament.

“It’s not a principle that fits with how rugby is perceived and it is not going to happen,” said chief executive Ian Ritchie.

More than 20,000 people have applied for the 6,000 volunteer slots at the tournament.

Wasps will have advantage in the first leg of their play-off with Stade Francais for the final place in next season’s European Champions’ Cup.

The Parisians will visit Adams Park on Sunday, May 18 before hosting Dai Young’s side on Saturday, May 24 in the second leg after yesterday’s draw at Heathrow.

Promotion-chasing Bristol will have Ryan Jones available for the Championship play-offs after the former Wales captain was released from his Ospreys contract early to join them.

Scarlets have signed Cardiff Blues’ twice-capped Wales wing Harry Robinson on a two-year contract.
