Jonathan Joseph inspires Bath Rugby to friendly victory at Jersey RFC

Two tries from Jonathan Joseph set Bath Rugby on their way to a hard-fought 34-10 win in Saturday’s well-contested friendly at Jersey RFC.

The home crowd were given a treat when Jersey-born Matt Banahan was called into the Bath starting XV as a last-minute replacement for fellow England centre Kyle Eastmond.

Aaron Penberthy kicked an early penalty for Jersey but Gavin Henson replied in kind soon after and also kicked the conversion after Joseph had released Henry Thomas and collected his return pass before crossing for the opening try.

Joseph also started the move which ended with Semesa Rokoduguni racing through to touch down, then added a second try of his own after Jersey had given away possession.

Henson’s conversion made it 22-3 at half-time, which was extended when Leroy Houston picked up from the base of a scrum and powered over the line. Henson again added the extras.

Jersey gave the home faithful in a 2,937-strong crowd something to cheer when strong work from full-back Jack Burroughs set up Nick Haining to touch down.

That try, and Penberthy’s conversion, geed Jersey up but Bath’s defence stood firm and the visitors had the final word when Joseph again made the break before sending Olly Woodburn through to make the final score 34-10.
