Tributes have been paid to rugby player Ashley Scrivens after he lost his battle against skin cancer. He was 24.
Ashley, who died on Sunday, was the son of former Gloucester Rugby player Nigel Scrivens.
His mother Sharon posted on Facebook: “It is with overwhelming sadness that today we lost the sunshine in our lives and possibly one of the happiest young men ever.
“He battled hard to rid the evil melanoma that invaded his body but today he lost the battle.
“He died peacefully with his loving family at his side.â€
His club Cirencester RFC tweeted: “@CirencesterRFC is sad to announce that Ashley Scrivens has lost his battle with cancer at 24. Please keep the family in your hearts.â€
Alongside rugby, Ashley worked as a consultant at First Military Recruitment after leaving Cirencester College.
There has been an outpouring of tributes on Facebook for the popular Cirencester man. Victoria Crouch said: “Our hearts are completely broken.
“We love you and always will. We are blessed to have been a part of your life and will never forget you. You fought so hard. Sleep tight lovely.â€
Ian Webb wrote: “A gentle giant and a true gentleman.
“You will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know you.â€
Chris Thorn said: “Miss you big man, rest easy, love you.â€
Jake Hayward-Wright posted: “RIP Ash. A big guy, big personality and a big heart. Forever making people smile and still will.â€
In March, Ashley posted a picture on Facebook of himself in hospital after an operation to remove lymph nodes infected with melanoma.
Later that month he posted a picture of the infected patch of skin, asking people to donate to charity.
Melanoma is a rare and serious cancer which starts in the skin and can spread to other organs in the body.
It is one of the most common cancers in people aged 15 to 34 and is responsible for most skin cancer deaths
