ON the cusp of yet another season achieving All Ireland League status remains the burning ambition for Clogher Valley Rugby Club.
Last season the men from the Cran were crowned Qualifying League One champions for a second time as well as rounding off the season by winning the Townsâ Cup for a fourth time since 2007.
However there were bitter disappointments along the way, no more so than the excruciatingly painful 10-9 defeat to Enniscorthy in the final of the All Ireland Junior Cup.
That hurt everyone involved with the Valley set-up including coaches Glen Kyle and David Black. Kyle insisted the painful memories of that bitterly disappointing day in Dublin would drive his players to greater success.
âThe All Ireland Cup final was a major disappointment that really hurt us,â said Kyle.
âWe did mighty well to get there but slipped up on the big occasion. Thatâs something we need to rectify, thatâs for sure.
âWe want to become a senior club, thatâs the goal we want to achieve. Thereâs no point playing second fiddle for another season. We need to get senior rugby and move the club onwards and upwards.
âWe been there or thereabouts for a number of years and we donât want to miss the boat. We know the goals and weâre making no bones about it that we want senior status to play with the big boys, the Raineys, the Dungannons.
âWe want to be up there challenging the big boys but getting out of junior rugby isnât easy.â
Clogher open their league campaign away at Ballymoney on Saturday.
