Castle Park players from yesteryear are set for a reunion as Doncasterâs promotion drive gathers pace.
Hoping that Clive Griffithsâ current band of Knights can end the season in top spot are a throng of former players.
And they will convene for the 16th annual Doncaster Rugby Club past playersâ lunch ahead of Knightsâ home clash with Henley at Castle Park on February 8.
A number of former players have been meeting annually since 1999 to celebrate the most promoted club in England rugby unionâs recent history.
The inaugural get-together took place when a group of players from the 1979 Yorkshire Shield Winners side assembled to watch Doncaster beat Northern to secure of their several promotions through the lower leagues.
There was a time when DRFC ran up to six teams every weekend and the lunch has become quite an occasion in the Castle Park calendar, with up to 200 former players gathering to reminisce on their playing days.
The lunch is open to anybody who played for the club, for any length of time, at any level.
Friends of those who did are also welcome to attend the event.
