Your Guide to Wales" 2014 6 Nations Rugby Campaign

The 15th annual 6 Nations Championship is due to kick off on 1st February 2014, and the Wales squad is primed and ready for action. The proud Welsh players will be hoping to emulate last year’s glorious title success, and many pundits are tipping them to do just that. The world’s biggest rugby championship is expected to be bigger and better than ever this year, and Wales’ three home games in this year’s championship are expected to be sell-outs.

While the Wales rugby team surprised many people with their victory last year – including many of their own fans – hopes are high for an even better display this year. Head coach and rugby legend Warren Gatland will be hoping that the likes of Leigh Halfpenny, Bradley Davies and Gethin Jenkins are firing on all cylinders for the defence of their title. Wales have four 6 Nations titles already in the trophy cabinet, so a proud nation will be looking on with high expectations.

The Tournament in a Nutshell

This year’s curtain raiser kicks off on Saturday 1st February 2014 at the Millennium Stadium, where Wales take on Italy. Matches will then follow every one to two weeks – usually on Saturdays and Sunday. However, there will be one Friday night match between Wales and France. Six weeks of international rugby will take centre stage at the iconic venues of Twickenham in London, the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Murrayfield in Scotland, Aviva Stadium in Dublin and the Stade de France in Paris. The 2014 6 Nations Championship concludes on Saturday 15th March at the Stade de France.

Fixtures

The eagerly anticipated clash between Wales and Italy – taking place on Saturday 1st February – is expected to be one of Wales’ easiest matches. Wales then have a tricky away game against a resurgent Ireland in Dublin on Saturday 8th February before a monumental clash against the French on Friday 21st February at the Millennium Stadium. The second of their two away matches takes place on Sunday 9th March against arch-enemy England, before Wales wrap up their 6 Nations campaign with a home match against Scotland on Saturday 15th March.

Booking hotels near Aviva Stadium, Dublin early is the only way to make sure you get to cheer Wales on against the Irish. Nearby hotels include the Four Seasons Hotel, the Roxford Lodge Hotel and the Grand Canal Hotel – all of which are within walking distance of the stadium. If you fancy a trip to the home of international rugby to watch Wales play England, there are also some excellent hotels near Twickenham Stadium, London, including the Corinthia Hotel and the Charing Cross Hotel. And if you’re planning to watch Wales at home, there are some excellent hotels near Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, including the Cardiff Marriott Hotel, the Radisson Blu Hotel and the Park Inn by Radisson.
