Your Guide to Scotland"s 6 Nations Rugby Campaign

Rugby’s 6 Nations Championship is approaching once again, and fans of the Scotland team will be hoping that the progress made last year can be developed into a serious title challenge. Scotland finished in third place in 2013, and there is nothing to suggest that interim head coach Scott Johnson and his team can’t improve on last year’s performance. Scotland have never won the 6 Nations trophy, but a new-found optimism surrounds the Scottish camp this time around.

Scotland are approaching the 2014 6 Nations Championship on the back of some indifferent form. Thrashed by South Africa 28-0 in November, all of the squad’s big players will need to be present if a genuine title challenge is a realistic prospect. Unfortunately, the last time Scotland won a championship was in 1999 when they lifted the last 5 Nations Championship, so the presence of big stars such as Greig Laidlaw, Greig Tonks and team Captain Kelly Brown is vital to the team’s success.

The 6 Nations Championship – Dates and Venues

The 2014 6 Nations Championship will kick off on 1st February 2014 with the match between Wales and Italy at the Millennium Stadium. An exciting 6 weeks of passionate and patriotic rugby action will then follow – culminating in a final game on Saturday 15th March. Games will be played in some of Europe’s most wonderful stadiums, including England’s iconic Twickenham Stadium, Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, Edinburgh’s Murrayfield, the Stade de France in Paris, Dublin’s Aviva Stadium and the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Scotland’s matches

Scotland will get their 2014 6 Nations campaign underway with a ferocious encounter against Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Sunday 2nd February. It’s then back to Murrayfield for a battle against arch-rivals England on Saturday 8th February. The players can then enjoy a week’s break before heading to Rome for a must-win tie against the Italians on Saturday 22nd February. Scotland then have another week off before an eagerly anticipated clash with France at Murrayfield on Saturday 8th March, before a final game against Wales at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday 15th March.
