âWe can work with the FAW to deliver a world-class venueâ
Roger Lewis
WRU chief executive Roger Lewis said: âIt is the cathedral of world rugby but we are in a unique position where we can do so much more.
âWe want to embark on the next stage of the journey and improve the pitch, which is a talking point for us all.
âOur preferred option is to go for a Desso surface that will take us to yet another level â a hybrid pitch.
âIt would give us greater ability to attract world and European football.
âWeâre already talking to our partners at the FAW to see what we can do together to bring European football to Cardiff and Wales.
âUEFA have strict criteria for pitches but a Desso pitch fulfils that. We can work with the FAW to deliver a world-class venue.â
The WRU hope to begin work on the hybrid pitch in the summer, ahead of the Welsh rugby teamâs autumn series.
They face Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and South Africa in successive matches.
