Further recognition this week for Irelandâs 6 Nations Womenâs team, led by Captain Fiona Coghlan, as the squad together with Coach Philip Doyle, are among the nominees for this yearâs RTÃ Sports Awards.
The December 21st ceremony will see the outstanding Person, Coach and Team of the Year recognised for their achievements.
Tough opposition of course, but great to see the teamâs achievements given recognition on this special occasion.
The awards ceremony  will be broadcast live on RTà Two and RTÃ.ie on Saturday, December 21.
Â
The squad meanwhile begin the defence of their Championship title on Friday, January 31, 2014when they take on Scotland in Ashbourne with the game due to be streamed live on IrishRugby.ie.
Â
Since winning the tournament back in March the girls in green and the trophy have been busy promoting the growth of Womenâs rugby across the four provinces.
Â
The trophy visited over 200 clubs, schools, universities, events and awards ceremonies since it was brought back to Ireland by Philip Doyleâs victorious side in March, travelling over 15,000 miles across the length and breadth of the country.
Â
An estimated 5,000 photographs have been taken on the tour with trophy, meaning that it needed to be kept clean! Ten polishing cloths and four sets of green RBS ribbons were used during the tour, with an estimated 50 hours spent shining the trophy while on its tour.
Â
Letâs hope we are shining it up again at the end of the 2014 Championship!
