Cambuslang Rugby Club closed the gap at the top to just 10 points after a win over Cumbernauld on Saturday.
Tries from Matt McGarvey, David Wood, Gregor Jones and captain James McLaren led Cambus to victory over Cumbernauld.
On a day when the rain and biting wind werenât conducive to good rugby, the opposition opted to submit to defeat after 60 minutes, with the final score standing.
Victory over Cumbernauld saw the side rise up to fourth in the table, on a day when promotion rivals Carrick also won in the only other game to be played in RBS West League Two.
Captain James McLaren said: âIt was a weird one as we only played for 60 minutes on Saturday.
âCumbernauld had lost a man to injury, and then when a second one went off on the hour mark, they deicded to fold, and the rules say if youâve played over an hour, then you can concede the game.
âWe did very well as we only conceded one penalty in the first half, which we were pleased about as we had worked on it in training last week.â
Cambus have closed the gap at the top thanks to an amazing 13 bonus points which theyâve earned this season, for scoring four tries or more in a game, or for keeping a defeat to within seven points.
James continued: âIt was good to get the bonus again,
âThis season, our bonus points have been like extra wins for us, as weâve been regularly picking them up this season. Theyâve made a huge difference for us.â
Weather permitting, Cambus will be on the road this weekend, to make the short trip to Alexandria to face Loch Lomond. James added: âWeâre looking to go down there and get another win and five points.
âTheyâve got a good forward pack and we know from the scrums, they like to drive it. Weâre looking to be sharper and counter that, so Iâm sure our front row can withstand it.
âI donât know if the game will go ahead on Saturday because of the weather.
âTo be honest, Iâve been expecting games to be called off for the last couple of weeks to give us a winter break, as you donât normally get too many games at this time of year.
âBut weâll be preparing in training for it this week, and go down there with a strong team to try and come home with another good win.â
