Defending champions Toulon are unbeaten in the tournament at their home stadium and have never lost to English opposition after seven meetings.
However, after being pushed so close at Sandy Park last week, captain Jonny Wilkinson, who sealed a 14-9 win with a late drop goal, knows the French club can take nothing for granted.
âWe know we have to prepare damn well to play against them. Weâve seen first-hand what the Chiefs are capable of and maybe if a few balls didnât go down or the rub of the green went slightly different, we would have been in a very different situation,â said Wilkinson.
âRight now weâll take each game as it comes but these guys [Chiefs] will be incredibly tough.â
Rob Baxterâs side know they must win to stay in control of their own destiny as they look to reach the last eight of the Heineken Cup for the first time. And that would throw Pool 2 wide open with just five points separating all four teams after the first three rounds.
âIt is impossible to say who is going to qualify from this group. Itâs do or die every game and it reminds me somewhat of the Rugby World in 2007 when we came off the loss to South Africa and suddenly you find yourselves backs to the wall in every game,â added Wilkinson.
âIt doesnât matter how well you get out of that next one, you are still in the same position, and itâs a stressful place to be.â
Exeter will have to brush up on their defence having missed more tackles per game [24.7] than any other side in the Heineken Cup this season, especially as they are facing a team that has averaged 38 points at home in Europe. However, in No8 Dave Ewers, the Chiefs possess the tournamentâs most prolific ball-carrier with 51 carries.
