âWe are keen for the secondary market to be regulated to avoid sophisticated
touts snapping up the lower priced tickets online and then selling them on
at vastly inflated prices.â
Ticket prices will also be confirmed today and are expected to range between
£7 and £715 for the top tickets for the final.
The International Rugby Board take 50 per cent of the tickets to distribute to
sponsors, unions, hospitality and travel programmes while ER 2015 distribute
the remainder directly to supporters.
However, there is an expectation that the IRB may return some of their
allocation and there is a strategy in place to ensure that any returns are
then made available to supporters to purchase.
Meanwhile, the RFU has come under fire from some debenture holders at
Twickenham who have been denied the right to purchase tickets for World Cup
final.
The governing body has confirmed that only debenture holders whose contract
states their right to buy is for âall matchesâ will be given the option to
purchase World Cup tickets despite length negotiations with the IRB.
However those who bought debentures in 2010 – even if they were renewing â
were for matches âunder RFU controlâ. The World Cup is run by the IRB.
One debenture holder denied the right to buy tickets said last night he was
considering his legal position while another, who had held a debenture since
the 1980s said the decision “stank”.
An RFU spokesman said: âWhile we appreciate that there may be some
disappointment, we hope that our debenture holders understand that as RWC
2015 is controlled by Rugby World Cup Ltd and not the RFU, we are not able
to guarantee tickets to the extent we would have wanted.
âHowever where terms of debentures give them the right to buy tickets to any
rugby union match at Twickenham, the RFU has negotiated the right for all of
those holders to have access.â
