Rugby Sevens


Rugby Sevens is a fast paced version of the fifteen-a-side game; invented in 1883 in Melrose in the Scottish Borders it has gained popularity around the world.



Each game is just 14 minutes long and test players’ speed, agility and ball-handling to the limit. Players combine running with the ball and kicking the ball to get it over the opponent’s goal line to score.



The popularity of the game is set to increase even further as it will for the first time be included as an Olympic sport in the Rio de Janeiro games in 2016.



Only men will compete in Rugby Sevens at Glasgow 2014.



The Big Event



The Rugby Sevens events will take place over two days of intense competition on July 26 and 27, with 16 teams battling over a total of 45 games.



New Zealand has dominated Commonwealth Games Rugby Sevens, claiming all four Gold medals to date and will be the team to watch at Glasgow 2014.



Don’t Miss



The sport is popular among Pacific island nations; Fiji and Samoa are sure to be among the most entertaining sides with flair and daring in their game.



African teams South Africa and Kenya are also sure to be competing for the Gold medal.



Scot to watch



Colin Gregor – Scotland’s national team Rugby Sevens captain; he is Scotland’s leading points scorer in the Sevens World Series.



Andrew Turnbull – Scottish Rugby’s top try scorer in the Sevens World Series.
