This meeting between league, union, AFL and football administrators in 2011 has now had an historic outcome affecting Macleay Valley Mustangs. Rob Wright

MID North Coast Rugby Union is the first rival sporting code to react to the expulsion of Macleay Valley Mustangs from the Group 2 Rugby League competition.




Zone executive officer Bob Wilson has issued an instruction that not only stops “code hopping” by any player or official who may be suspended over the matter but also stops all players with a current dual registration from playing league with Macleay Valley or turning out with a union club.




“The suspension of the Macleay Valley Rugby League Club … also applies to all other sports including Rugby Union,” the communication read.




“I have been notified by the NSWRU that any player from the Macleay Rugby League who registered with a club in the MNCRU Zone is also suspended from playing for that club.”




It’s believed the alert was issued after Coffs Harbour Snappers sought clarification.




At this early stage, it is unknown if any rugby players from Kempsey Cannonballs would find their season ending early due to the ban.




In 2011, officials governing Group 2, MNC Rugby, North Coast Football and AFL North Coast, met in Coffs Harbour to formalise an agreement to stop players suspended in one code from “hopping” to another code until the sentence had been served.
