Lions Leigh Halfpenny is toast of the tourists

Halfpenny kicked 21 points in the Third Test decider in Sydney yesterday – a Lions Test record – while his 49 points in the series beat his goalkicking mentor Neil Jenkins’ previous best of 41, set 16 years ago. Halfpenny also created tries for Jonathan Sexton and George North before collecting the man-of-the-series award.

Sunday Express columnist Jones said: “It’s funny. He’s established himself as pretty iconic in the game and he’s been a talisman throughout the tour. All the plaudits he gets are more than well deserved.”

Halfpenny missed a longrange kick that could have won the series last week.
