Bulls back Crusaders for home final

Bulls fans are confident they have a great chance of hosting the Super Rugby final in 12 days time.

Having seen the Cheetahs come with a goalpost of beating the Brumbies on Sunday, the Bulls will now face the easier of the semi-final options, against the Brumbies.

There was concern they might have to face the Crusaders if the Cheetahs had won.

As Sport24.co.za noted on Monday: “Not only do the Bulls now have arguably a slightly ‘easier’ game next weekend on paper – although they would under-estimate the Brumbies very much at their perio – but there is a rosy chance that the ‘Saders [Crusaders]] will knock over the Chiefs in the derby and thus set up a possible Pretoria final as well.”

They added side-stepping the Crusaders was a good outcome for Frans Ludeke’s charges.

“The Cantabrians are the one team in the competition who seem to make amazingly light work of the supposed travel bogey and they are also the form team of Super Rugby at a key stage,” they said.

The Brumbies will head to Loftus Versfeld not having won there since 2006. However, the Australians could counter that the Brumbies beat the bulls 23-20 in Canberra earlier this year.

However, the South Africans conceded that in order to achieve a home final, they had to see the Crusaders overcome the Chiefs.

While the Crusaders beat the defending champions 43-15 in Christchurch earlier in July, there was every incentive for the home team who won the first game between the two this year 28-19.
