ALLEN EARNS SHUTOUT


LONDON – Tristen Allen posted his fourth shutout as the Chatham Attack beat the London Renegades 5-0 on Sunday in the Western Ontario Soccer League’s Fourth West Division.


Josh Reaume, Mack Boersema, Keegan Pittuck, Mitchell Hakker and Chad Schnekenburger scored for Chatham, which led 3-0 at halftime.


The Attack is in first place with a 6-0-2 record. The next game is at 6 p.m. Saturday at Thames Campus against Petrolia.


BUIS POWERS HAVOC


PORT COLBORNE – Captain Dave Buis scored two tries for the Kent Havoc in a 27-22 win over the Niagara Wasps in the Niagara Rugby Union men’s ‘B’ division Saturday.


Rookie Jack Thomas scored his first try and Tyler Gawley kicked a drop goal.


The Havoc hosts the Burlington Centaurs on Saturday, July 6, at 1:30 p.m. at Victoria Park.


HAVOC LOSES TO ‘HOGS


WILMOT – The Kent Havoc lost 28-3 to the Wilmot Warthogs on Saturday in the Niagara Rugby Union women’s ‘B’ division.


Breanne Nicholas converted a penalty kick for the Havoc’s three points. She’ll play for Canada at the Under-20 Nations Cup in London, England, from July 8-21.


The Havoc visits the Norfolk Harvesters on Saturday, July 6.


LIGHTS OUT FOR COUGARS


The Chatham-Kent Cougars lost 24-22 to the Forest City Thunderbirds in the Ontario Football Conference senior varsity division Saturday night.


The Cougars led 14-8 at halftime, but they couldn’t hold off the Thunderbirds in a second half delayed by lightning and lighting problems at the Chatham-Kent Community Athletic Complex.


The Cougars are 1-4 after their third straight loss. They’ll visit the Oakville Titans this Sunday.


The Junior Varsity Cougars beat the Thunderbirds 29-25 earlier Saturday, lifting Chatham-Kent’s record to 2-2.


On Sunday, the Bantam Cougars lost 33-7 to the Thunderbirds and the Peewee Cougars beat the Sarnia Sturgeons 31-0.


EXPRESS IN SECOND


The Chatham Express beat St. Thomas 3-1 on Saturday at Thames Campus in the Western Ontario Soccer League’s Premier Division.


The Express also lost 3-1 to London Marconi on Thursday.


The Express (4-2-2) is in a four-way tie for second place, two points behind London AEK.


The Wallaceburg Sting (1-5-2) visits the Express at 7 p.m. Friday at Thames Campus.


EAGLES IN SCORELESS TIE


The Chatham Eagles played to a 0-0 tie with London Portuguese on Saturday at Thames Campus.


The Eagles are 2-3-1 in the Premier Division of the London Area Women’s Soccer League.


They visit London Marconi this Sunday.


STORM WINS WHITEWASH


The Chatham Storm beat St. Columban 5-0 on Friday at Thames Campus in the Western Ontario Soccer League’s Third Division.


The third-place Storm (5-2-1) visits the LAC Athletics on Tuesday in London.


BALKWILL WITH FIVE RBIS


Rookie catcher Larry Balkwill of Chatham drove in a game-high five runs and scored two for the London Majors in a 22-3 win over the Burlington Bandits on Friday in the Intercounty Baseball League.


Balkwill was 3-for-5 with a double, two singles and a walk.


On Sunday, he was 0-for-4 in an 8-5 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.


EMRICHES WIN TOURNEY


Mike Emrich and Martin Emrich went 4-0 to win the Union Racquets Tennis Club men’s doubles tournament Saturday at the Union Gas courts.


Dele Kilanko and Shoaib Muhammad beat Tim Baker and Dylan Baker 8-6 in the consolation final.


Lisa Harnarine and Chris Lozon won the mixed doubles tournament with a 3-1 record.
