OâDriscoll, 33, has a particular reason for speaking out as he has. As Lions captain in New Zealand, he was taken out of the series after two minutes of the first Test by a double spear-tackle by Tana Umaga and Keven Mealamu. Neither faced any hearing, let alone a suspension.
The bravery of OâDriscollâs compatriot Paul OâConnell after breaking an arm in the first Test was revealed by Australia prop Ben Alexander yesterday.
âOur physio said he had broken his arm before the last few scrums but he got up and we thought, âMaybe notâ. He packed those last few scrums, didnât wince and shook hands after the game,â said Alexander.
âThey are going to miss that hardness the Europeans see week-in, week-out when he plays for Munster and Ireland. He is one of the greatest players I have ever played against.â
OâConnell is to stay with the Lions for the rest of the tour and help the coaches prepare the Lions forwards for the remaining two Tests.
