Former Wales and Worcester Warriors ace Andy Williams quits Luctonians Rugby Club in National Two North

FORMER Wales and Worcester Warriors’ scrum-half Andy Williams has quit Luctonians Rugby Club.
The Swansea-based player says he is looking forward to taking his two young children to the park on a Saturday afternoon.
Williams, who works for the Welsh Rugby Union, admits that playing and coaching at Kingsland would have been too much.
“It was a massive decision but I just felt that it was the right one and I will always be on the end of the phone if Alex Davidson needs me,†he said.
“I could probably still play for another couple of years but I stopped playing two years ago and I wanted to concentrate on being a coach.
“I like to give 100 per cent in everything I do and I felt that, going forward, I could not give that level of commitment to playing and coaching.
“I will not play for anybody else and the welcome and support I received at Luctonians will never be forgotten.
“I have had a very tough year on the personal front and I felt that I could not give the club what they wanted.
“Luctonians is a great club and, with Alex, they have got someone who will make it a success. I have two little girls and they must come first.
“I will enjoy my Saturday afternoons and take my daughters to the park.â€
Luctonians players return for pre-season training next Tuesday with Jimmy Norris the new captain and backs’ coach.
Stuart Bemand is Luctonians’ head coach for their fourth season in National League Two North and he will be backed up by Viv Wooley.
Luctonians finished eighth in the division last term.
Luctonians’ director of rugby Davidson said: “Losing Andy is a big loss on the playing side and I think a lot of people might be surprised by the news. “But Andy has explained his reasons and we fully understand them. He’s got two young children who come first.
“It will open up opportunities for the likes of Ollie Williams, Brett Prior and Nathan Roy-Smith, who we converted into a scrum-half at the end of last season.â€
Will Burton’s rugby future is uncertain – he is splitting his pre-season training between Ebbw Vale and Luctonians.
Drew Cheshire has been involved in first-team training at Gloucester but Davidson expects him to be available for Luctonians on match-days.
Davidson says Rob Yeomans is likely to play for his local club, Tenbury, for work reasons.
Prop Ricky Davies, who has been playing in France and is an ex-Birmingham and Solihull player, is expected at Mortimer Park.
And Adam Clayton, a back-rower who has been at Cornish Pirates, is another player likely to pitch up.
Warm-up matches have been organised against Newbridge (home) on August 17 and Lydney (away) on August 31.
And Luctonians begin their new league season against Hull on September 7 when the club hope to mark the official opening of their grandstand.
The departing Williams added: “I have had two great years as head coach at Luctonians and I thank the club for the opportunity.â€
